How Do You Stop Pallets Breakage Under Cement Bags?

How Do You Stop Pallets Breakage Under Cement Bags?

Few things frustrate more than a ripped cement bag. Whether it’s concrete mix, mortar, or dry grout – spillage means waste, mess, and unhappy clients. And in most cases, the problem starts with poor palletization.
Here’s how to ship cement bags cleanly, safely, and without losing half the load to tears or moisture.

1. Use full-surface pallets with solid construction

Many bag punctures happen from the bottom. Uneven pallet surfaces, splinters, or protruding nails tear sacks during loading or movement.
PalletBiz offers full-surface pallets with tight board spacing or solid top decks – ideal for bagged goods. A flat, uniform surface avoids pressure points and reduces friction damage underneath the bags.

We also use compressed wood blocks in our heavy-duty models. These blocks are:
• Denser and more moisture-resistant than standard softwood blocks
• Precisely machine-cut for smoothness
• Designed for better nail grip and dimensional stability
The result? Fewer loose nails, fewer splinters, and a stable base that lasts.

2. Avoid overhang - fit the pallet to the bag footprint

If your bags stick out past the edge of the pallet, they’re exposed to knocks and tears.
Custom sizing matters. We adjust pallet dimensions to fit your exact bag footprint so that bags don’t hang over the edge or compress awkwardly under weight.
This simple change improves weight distribution, load balance, and handling safety.

3. Wrap tight and protect corners

Loose stretch wrap lets bags shift, bulge, or fall during transit. Use automated stretch wrappers or manual wrapping with:
• 3+ full rotations at the base
• Corner protectors to avoid wrap pressure crushing outer bags
Even better: use stretch hooders – full-body wraps that shrink over the stack and hold bags tight from top to base. Great for humid or outdoor environments.

4. Moisture is the enemy - keep it out

Cement absorbs moisture fast – and loses its value the moment it clumps.
Protect your palletized bags with:
• Shrink covers or full hooding for outdoor storage
• Ventilated wrap in humid conditions to reduce condensation
We also build moisture-resistant pallets with sealed bases for longer-term storage.

5. Reinforce for stacking and transport

In high-volume shipments, stability matters. Consider built-in support features:
• Stacking lugs or skid-ready bases
• Heavier deck boards for two-tier loading

These enhancements prevent slippage during forklift handling and allow safer double-stacking in warehouses or on trucks.
The answer to “How do you stop pallets breakage under cement bags?” starts with smarter design, tighter builds, and tailored support.

And that’s exactly what we offer at PalletBiz.
