Sustainability

Back

Considering that PalletBiz operates in an industry that is heavily dependent on the abundance of quality raw materials (particularly wood), as well as on other resources such as energy, fossil resources, and water, we recognize that we must strategically deal with our impact on the environment and the respective social constructs.

Read about our commitment to responsible sourcing, reducing environmental impact, and promoting ethical practices across our value chain.

PalletBiz publishes Annual Sustainability Report

PalletBiz publishes Annual Sustainability Report

We’re proud to mark a milestone for our network: PalletBiz has publicly released its Annual Sustainable Development Report (SDR) for the financial year 2024. This is the second year when such a report was prepared. The SDR 2023 was shared initially with a closed audience – while this year we have decided to make both reports available to the open public.

As a packaging and handling network operating across EMEA, with our headquarters registered in Hungary, the SDR sets our baseline, aligns us with emerging EU rules, and makes our progress transparent to customers, partners, and colleagues.

Why publish now?

Several forces are reshaping corporate transparency in Europe:

  1. CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) – the EU directive that requires in-scope companies to include assured sustainability information in their annual reports using common standards, so data is consistent, comparable, and decision-useful. ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) are the detailed disclosure standards that specify what companies must report under CSRD, developed through EFRAG’s due process for the European Commission.
  2. EUDR (European Regulation on Deforestation-free Products) – in force since June 2023, this regulation requires companies trading in wood and other forest-risk commodities to prove their products are deforestation-free and fully traceable back to origin. Obligations start on 30 December 2025 for medium and large operators/traders, and 30 June 2026 for micro and small enterprises. PalletBiz is preparing for the EUDR by evaluating traceability systems, risk screening, and supplier protocols – and is expected to be compliant by the time the reporting obligations start.

Where PalletBiz stands

CSRD and EUDR do not yet apply to PalletBiz, as we are considered an SME (companies meeting at least two of the following three criteria: fewer than 250 employees, turnover below EUR 50 million, or balance sheet total below EUR 25 million).

Nevertheless, we have voluntarily begun aligning our sustainability disclosures with European obligations. By integrating key elements such as double materiality, value-chain transparency, and governance disclosures, we are building a strong foundation for future reporting. This proactive approach ensures we remain ready to meet compliance requirements as they take effect – while continuing to offer transparency and trust to our partners not only in the EU but also across Africa and the Middle East.

What’s changing next (and what it means for customers & partners)

  • Simpler ESRS, same direction: The EU is reducing data points and clarifying standards, but the direction is unchanged: transparent, comparable ESG data tied to strategy and risk.
  • Timing clarity in 2025–2026: With EU delays and ESRS revisions in motion, the countries where we are operating are expected to fine-tune their national timelines. PalletBiz will closely follow the regulatory developments and aim to comply by the communicated deadlines.
  • Continuous improvement: We still have work to do on data collection and streamlining (energy, emissions, waste, sourcing), standardizing site-level reporting across the network, and strengthening supplier due-diligence coverage.

What our FY2024 report covers

Our Annual Sustainability Report is designed to provide both transparency and a roadmap for continuous improvement. The contents include:

  • Executive Summary & About Us – an overview of PalletBiz and our network growth in EMEA.
  • Reporting Scope & KPI Dashboard – boundaries, methodology, and key sustainability performance indicators.
  • Our Environment – covering wooden material sourcing and use, waste handling, and broader environmental impacts and potential of our products.
  • Our People – focusing on employee development, working conditions, diversity and equality.
  • Our Business – addressing value-chain circularity, supply-chain standards and ethics, and partnerships.
  • GRI Content Index & Appendices – references to global reporting frameworks and supplementary details.
  • Alignment with EU frameworks – how we are already aligning with ESRS and EUDR, applying double materiality assessments, mapping stakeholders, and identifying ESG risks and opportunities.
