Gateway to Conquering Markets in Western Europe

Establishing a presence in Germany was a major strategic achievement for the PalletBiz network. PalletBiz Germany, our lead franchisee has been preparing market penetration in the state of North Rhein Westphalia (NRW) since the beginning of 2023 – and by now, there are active operations at two production sites.

Strategic acquisition of the factory in Schwelm

The penetration of the German market was a natural continuation of the general growth strategy of the PalletBiz Group – and has been in the works for many years. The ideas of expansion to Western Europe finally became a reality in 2022 by partnering with Mr. Jan Schäfer, co-founder and co-owner of PalletBiz Germany. “Our goal is to build up the full PalletBiz product mix – and to fully realize the “one-call-for-all” approach”, summarizes Mr. Schäfer.

Adding local sourcing possibilities and manufacturing footprint was the main strategic direction for PalletBiz Germany in the first year. The research has therefore focused on finding a production partner in NRW, leading to the acquisition of a pallet company in the southeast of the “Ruhrgebiet” in the beginning of 2024.

The product mix

The acquired factory has an excellent location, extensive machine park and unique product mix, and it is now in the process of becoming a key sourcing point whose production capacity will be utilized by existing operations in the DACH region. The factory specializes in the following products:

Wooden boxes of any type, size and shape
Special pallets
Cartons and other packing materials

Developing Expertise Towards Sustainable Packaging Solutions

Parallel to managing the factory acquisition, PalletBiz Germany developed a relationship with a company that specializes in pallet repair and the used packaging business. This operation, located in Krefeld, became part of the PalletBiz network in the second half of 2024, and will facilitate integrating a more elevated product and customer mix in and around NRW.

As explained through the PalletBiz Sustainability Strategy, it is a network-wide target to increase the share of products that are the result of repair and reuse processes, whereas a specified portion of product mix and revenue must be generated from eco-friendly solutions with lesser packaging impact. The operations in Krefeld excel in related services, such as pallet buyback, repair and exchange – and the same business model will be rolled to other locations throughout the PalletBiz footprint for enhanced sustainability and competitive advantage.
